Good Morning America!

Good Morning America!

Shake the sleep from your head (but don’t rub your eyes). As you awaken, realize that it isn’t all just a dream, things are pretty rough right now.

Yes, it isn’t all just a nightmare. And it isn’t simply a failed philosophical ‘experiment'. No, dating all the way back to Reagan, conservatives had a plan to ruin government so we wouldn’t trust it. To sow despair so we wouldn’t vote, and to make us think the government is the enemy. (1)

And it has worked! Even those that believe in government are dismayed by how things have been going the past few years, and especially the past few months. Reagan said “The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.” And at the moment that may seem very true. The reason: that ‘person', from the government, isn’t someone like you. S/he has been hired or appointed for wholly political reasons.

Nepotism is no longer a problem, it is simply the way the conservatives run the entire government, top to bottom. But it isn’t about hiring friends and family, it’s far more insidious, It’s called cronyism and it has gone from bad to worse. It is a revolving door between big lobbying firms, corporations, and other organizations and the people that are supposed to be our government of, for and by the people.

It doesn’t have to be that way. It wasn’t always that way. Plutocracy was banished from 1933 until 1980, and our nation prospered. We can do that again, but it requires getting up early in the morning, and working a long hard day. I am asking you do so.

But there’s reason for hope. And time for action. We can change government of, by, and for the Plutocrats back to of, by, and for the People! The good news is that we can see people waking up with renewed passion for change.

Have you participated in a protest yet? Yes, I mean the protests that are pro-humanity, pro-human rights, and pro-citizen? Maybe all you did was honk your horn and wave vigorously, and that’s ok. It is morning in American and you will participate throughout the day.

Ah, let’s see, what’s on the to do list for today;

Take care of those around me - that includes my family and those close to me, and also the protesting. But it also includes wearing a mask to protect others. And yes, having patience and thankfulness for those who put themselves at risk every day to ensure we have mail service, food,  that cars and houses get repaired, and all sorts of things they do. We don’t know where the next outbreak will occur, and we don’t know if the government is prepared (with tests and contact tracing) to keep outbreaks small. So social distancing and masks remain critical.

Got to do some learning today. Let’s start out this morning with some learning while we have our coffee.

-Here are some good resources, especially if you are white. But there many sources:

Before noon, let’s be sure to get in touch with Joe Biden, and let him know how we expect him to lead. You might go here < https://go.joebiden.com/page/s/contact-us
> and tell him who he should choose for VP, and while you are at it, suggest who you want to fill cabinet posts.

Another President once commented on how much work the Presidency requires. Biden is smart enough to know that, and smart enough to delegate. But we need him to choose the right people to help turn things around. I did so, and also told him he should announce key cabinet positions at the same time as the VP nominee. And soon.

I think we will all be pleasantly surprised by Biden’s choices, but you can help ensure that is the case by contacting him. Oh, and in case you hadn’t noticed, Bernie Sanders is all-in for Biden. He knows we have to turn things around, and that means a new President.

Hmm, what else? Maybe contribute to some key political races, especially key races for the US Senate. We have 30 or 40 years of work to do to restore this nation. We need to get off to a fast head start, or people won’t see how things are getting better. We can’t let despair return, there’s too much we need to do today. We definitely need to get rid of Moscow Mitch to make that happen. Maybe Bernie could lead the Senate next!

A lot of our best candidates are following the Bernie model and only accepting money from the public. They especially need, and deserve, our support. So invest what you can with key races around the country.

Now let’s, see, need to check that voter registration, so we can vote later …

You can check registration, or link to the right place to register here:

https://www.vote411.org/

Need to send that link and a reminder my contacts, they need to be prepared to change the country, and voting is how that is done.

This morning I will check to see who needs help getting vote from home ballots.

And this afternoon I will check to see if anyone needs a ride to the polls.

Later today we will all vote, and then this evening (in January) we will inaugurate change.

Good morning American. Lots to do. It’s going to be a long day. Get started, it is a great day to be alive!

(1) The Wrecking Crew, Thomas Frank, 20008.
This book explains the roots of the conservative movement dating back to before Reagan. It explains the hypocrisy and whiplash morality as part of an over arching to destroy faith in government by destroying government. Despite being written in 2008 it demonstrates clearly that Trump isn’t the problem, conservatism is the problem. A quote from the conclusion of Frank’s book, because he says it so well (and almost a decade before Trump’s election):

“At least we know where to begin : understanding conservatism’s cynicism for what it is, and for what it has done to our world. Until now, wingers have swaggered across the national stage wrecking and smashing with impunity, secure in the knowledge that a bit of scoffing toward big government would always get them off the hook, save them to wreck again some other day.

We can now say of that philosophy which regards good government as a laughable impossibility, which elevate bullies and gangsters and CEOs above other humans, which tells us to get wise and stop expecting anything good from Washington - we can now say with finality that it has had its chance. Whenever there was a choice to be made between markets and free people - between money and the common good - the conservatives chose money. Its time to make them answer for it.”
